How do you contact aliens? Scientists use powerful radio telescopes to listen for signals from distant stars, but thousands of ordinary people claim there are more personal ways to reach whatever may be watching Earth.
Some attempt contact through meditation. Others send patterns of light into the night sky, practice lucid dreaming or concentrate on a telepathic invitation before falling asleep. Their accounts often contain similar details: a star-like light appears, stops unexpectedly, changes direction or flashes moments after someone asks for a sign.
Nobody can guarantee what will happen when you try these methods. Still, the stories have encouraged contact groups around the world to continue looking upward and sending invitations into the unknown.
1. CE-5 Group Meditation
CE-5 stands for “Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind,” meaning an encounter deliberately initiated by a human participant.
The method is usually practiced by a small group in a quiet location away from city lights. Participants sit comfortably, calm their breathing and focus on a shared intention.
They begin by imagining Earth as it would appear from space. The visualization then moves closer, first toward their continent, then their country, town and exact location. Supporters believe this mental sequence acts like an address that helps an unknown intelligence find them.
The group ends the meditation with a simple invitation asking peaceful beings to reveal their presence.
People who attend CE-5 sessions describe star-like objects that suddenly become brighter, change direction or flash after the group requests a visible sign. Some report silent objects appearing shortly after the meditation has ended.
2. Sending an Invitation Before Sleep
Many contact practitioners believe the period between waking and sleeping makes the mind more receptive.
The method begins by lying quietly with closed eyes and imagining a bright point of light hovering above the house. The person then repeats a short message such as:
“If you can hear me and you come in peace, show me a sign I will understand.”
The message should be calm and clear rather than demanding. After repeating it several times, the participant allows sleep to arrive naturally.
Experiences connected with this practice include vivid dreams, unfamiliar rooms, recurring symbols and encounters with figures that communicate without speaking.
Keeping a notebook beside the bed is useful because dream details can disappear within minutes. A symbol that seems meaningless after one night may become important if it returns repeatedly.
3. Flashlight Signals
A flashlight offers a simple way to send a recognizable signal into the sky. One commonly used pattern consists of three short flashes, a pause and three more flashes.
The light is then switched off while the participant watches for a response.
Witnesses have reported distant objects repeating a similar pattern, suddenly increasing in brightness or disappearing before returning in a different position.
The flashlight should only be pointed toward an empty section of sky. It must never be directed at aircraft, vehicles or nearby buildings. Powerful lasers should not be used because they can endanger pilots and lead to serious legal consequences.
4. Watching the Sky from a Remote Location
Sometimes the simplest method is also the most effective: find a dark location and keep watching long enough to notice something unusual.
A useful observation site should have a clear horizon and little artificial light. Bring warm clothing, a comfortable chair, binoculars, a camera and enough patience to remain outside for at least an hour.
Do not watch only for fast-moving lights. Some intriguing reports begin with an object that appears completely stationary, like an ordinary star. It may remain still for several minutes before moving in an unexpected direction or vanishing instantly.
If something strange appears, note the exact time, direction, duration and type of movement. Record it with more than one device if possible and preserve the original files.
5. Lucid-Dream Contact
A lucid dream occurs when a person realizes they are dreaming without immediately waking up. Some people use this state to search for an extraterrestrial presence or ask a specific question.
Before sleeping, choose only one question:
- Who are you?
- Where do you come from?
- Why are you watching Earth?
- How will I recognize your next sign?
If lucidity begins during the dream, say the question clearly and wait to see what appears.
Reported experiences include rooms with curved metallic walls, enormous windows overlooking stars, glowing geometric symbols and beings that communicate through images or emotions.
Some dreamers claim to return to the same place over several nights. They see this repetition as an ongoing contact experience rather than a series of unrelated dreams.
6. Automatic Writing
Automatic writing begins with a quiet room, a sheet of paper and a clearly stated question. The participant relaxes and writes whatever enters the mind without analyzing each word.
A session might begin with:
“Is there someone who wishes to communicate with me?”
Every word, number, name and symbol should be recorded, even when it appears meaningless. The writing should not be edited immediately.
The first attempts may be chaotic, but practitioners claim repeated phrases and geometric shapes can emerge after several sessions. Dating and keeping every page makes it easier to compare the results and notice patterns.
Some alleged communications begin with a single symbol that appears many times before longer messages develop.
7. Radio Signals and Scientific Listening
Scientists search for extraterrestrial intelligence using enormous radio dishes, optical instruments and computer systems capable of processing vast amounts of data.
Breakthrough Listen is one of the largest scientific searches for intelligent life beyond Earth. Its observatories examine nearby stars, the galactic plane and distant galaxies for unusual radio transmissions and optical pulses.
NASA uses the term “technosignatures” to describe possible traces of advanced civilizations. These might include narrow-band radio signals, powerful laser flashes, industrial chemicals in an exoplanet’s atmosphere or enormous artificial structures orbiting a distant star.
Humanity has also sent physical messages into space. Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 carry gold-plated copper records containing music, natural sounds, images and greetings in 55 languages. According to NASA, the records were created to tell the story of Earth to any advanced civilization that might eventually find them.
The main problem is distance. A message sent to a planet 50 light-years away would need 50 years to arrive. Even if someone answered immediately, the reply would take another half-century to reach Earth.
What Should You Look For?
The sky contains aircraft, satellites, meteors, planets and long chains of Starlink spacecraft. Recording the exact time and direction makes it easier to separate familiar objects from something genuinely unusual.
More interesting observations involve lights that stop abruptly, reverse direction without making a gradual turn, divide into several objects or repeatedly respond to signals from the ground.
If this happens, keep filming and include stationary landmarks such as trees, hills or buildings. Avoid excessive digital zoom because it can distort the shape of a distant light and remove useful visual references.
Ask other witnesses to describe what they saw separately. When several independent accounts contain the same movements and details, the incident becomes much more difficult to dismiss.
What If Something Answers?
People who practice contact methods recommend remaining calm. Do not make threats, demand a close appearance or challenge the object to perform dangerous maneuvers.
Use short messages and watch for repetition. The same dream, symbol, time or location appearing across several attempts may be part of a larger pattern.
The first widely accepted contact could arrive through a radio telescope as a signal from a distant star. It could appear as a powerful laser pulse crossing interstellar space.
Or it may begin when an ordinary person sends a quiet invitation into the darkness and watches one of the “stars” suddenly change direction.
The real question is whether we would remain calm if something finally answered.
