Ongoing investigations into the mysterious Peruvian mummies—some of which have been speculated to be of extraterrestrial origin—have uncovered compelling new evidence suggesting these bodies are authentic biological beings. Yet, controversy remains.
Originally discovered in the Nazca desert by journalist Jaime Maussan, these unusual remains have been examined for years. Recent findings indicate the presence of ‘dental restorations and visible signs of dental procedures,’ reinforcing the idea that the mummies were once living organisms.
Dr. José Zalce, a former director of the Mexican Navy Medical Department, led an investigation into one of the mummies, dubbed ‘Antonio.’ By utilizing a specialized camera, his team discovered dental fillings made from mercury, silver, copper, and tin. They also documented between 28 to 32 teeth, some of which were broken, displaying spacing patterns similar to those of primates.
Dr. Zalce highlighted additional discoveries, including remnants of desiccated eye tissue and traces of the optic nerve, asserting that these details offer ‘unambiguous and irrefutable proof’ that the mummies are biological in nature. His team examined 21 different specimens, noting fingerprint patterns, bone wear, and internal organs.
Since first making headlines in 2017, these mummies have sparked fascination due to their elongated skulls and three-fingered hands. In 2022, they were displayed before Mexico’s Congress, with some experts contending that they belonged to once-living creatures.
However, forensic archaeologist Flavio Estrada has challenged these assertions, arguing that the remains were fabricated using animal bones and synthetic adhesives, dismissing any extraterrestrial connection.
Despite the skepticism, Dr. Zalce and his colleagues remain firm in their stance. The mummy Antonio, publicly revealed in December 2024, measures between 5.5 and 5.7 feet in height, with a distinct elongated head and three fingers on each hand.
Radiocarbon dating suggests the specimen is approximately 1,500 years old. Dr. David Ruiz Vela, one of the initial analysts, reported the presence of human-like organs and a puncture wound in Antonio’s chest, possibly indicating cause of death.
Scientists speculate that the bodies were naturally preserved through exposure to algae and a toxic adhesive substance. Another specimen, named Paloma, which was presented alongside Antonio, exhibited traces of hair—an unprecedented find among the collection. According to Dr. Ruiz Vela, Paloma may have lived to be around 60 years old.
Journalist Jois Mantilla has suggested that more information about the origins of these mummies will be revealed in 2025. The exact location of their discovery remains undisclosed to prevent potential looting or tampering.
Dr. Zalce insists that the anatomical features of the mummies, such as their three-fingered hands, are entirely natural and show no indications of artificial assembly or modification.
“All qualified experts who have conducted thorough examinations agree that these are non-human remains with distinct anatomical structures, including tridactyl hands, and there is no evidence of manipulation or tampering,” Dr. Zalce stated.
While the debate over the Peruvian mummies continues, the fact that no definitive conclusion has been reached raises further questions, suggesting that the mystery is far from solved.
